Berlin Local Clubs Thrive by Building Community Ties
Neighborhood teams report rising participation as they expand inclusive programs across the city.

Berlin amateur clubs registered a 15 percent rise in active members this summer compared with July 2025 figures released by the Berlin Football Association.
The increase arrives as residents seek regular local activities after months of disrupted schedules caused by construction work on public transport lines and shifting work patterns in central districts.
Programs at two key sites
At the sports grounds beside Volkspark Friedrichshain, SC Prenzlauer Berg now runs three weekly training sessions open to residents aged 16 and older, with equipment provided free on Tuesdays. In Neukölln, the Tempelhofer Feld pitch hosts SV Hasenheide, which added a women-only running group last month that meets every Thursday evening at 18:30 and draws participants from the adjacent high-rise blocks along Sonnenallee.
Both clubs coordinate with the city’s Sportamt to reserve fields without charge for community events, a policy extended through the end of 2026. SC Prenzlauer Berg also partnered with the local library branch on Greifswalder Strasse to offer joint reading-and-football afternoons for families, an arrangement that began in May.
Numbers behind the growth
Association records show total registered players in Berlin reached 148,000 in the 2025-26 season, up from 129,000 two years earlier. Annual membership fees at both clubs remain fixed at 48 euros for adults, with reduced rates of 24 euros available for anyone presenting a Berlin Pass. Equipment grants from the Senate Department for Sport covered 12,000 euros in new kits and balls distributed to SV Hasenheide alone since January.
Next month both clubs will open registration for their autumn leagues at the Sportamt offices on Karl-Marx-Allee; places are allocated on a first-come basis starting 1 August and can be completed online through the association portal.
