Berlin's Startup Scene Ranks Among Europe's Top Tech Hubs Through Major Pitch Events

Berlin ranks first among German startup locations and ninth worldwide, with more than 1,869 tracked companies including AI defense firm Helsing, which has raised €1.4 billion, and travel platform GetYourGuide, funded at $1.1 billion.

Recurring Pitch Nights Draw Niche Talent
The EC² Entrepreneurship and Community Club will host STARTUP SPOTLIGHT #2 on September 4, 2025, at IU Internationale Hochschule, giving entrepreneurs space to present ideas and connect. Venture Café Berlin runs the North Star Europe Berlin Pitch Night on October 30 at CIC Berlin, where selected founders pitch directly to investors. A prior Startup Spotlight session on November 26, 2024, featured eight women-led EIC-backed biotech and healthcare companies, with Akara Robotics presenting its AI operating room automation.
These events follow a pattern of focused sessions rather than broad festivals, allowing targeted matchmaking in health tech, defense AI and marketplace tools.
Established Players Show Revenue Scale
Käuferportal, founded in Berlin in 2008 by students, operates as a marketplace for upscale products and recorded €1 billion in annual sales with 300 employees before its planned pan-European expansion. The company’s trajectory illustrates how early Berlin startups have reached significant commercial volume while remaining anchored in the city.
Founders continue to register new ventures in Berlin at a steady pace, supported by the same infrastructure that produced the current roster of tracked companies. The next scheduled Startup Spotlight event, set for July 15, 2026, will focus on analytics and research technology and will run online, extending the series without requiring physical attendance.
