Tempelhofer Feld in Neukölln remains open daily from sunrise to sunset with 355 hectares of former runway space now used for cycling and picnics. The East Side Gallery along Mühlenstraße in Friedrichshain lets people walk the 1.3-kilometre stretch of preserved Berlin Wall murals without tickets or queues.

Green spaces and markets

Volkspark Friedrichshain offers 52 hectares of shaded paths and a free open-air chess area near the Märchenbrunnen fountain. On Sundays the adjacent Mauerpark hosts an unofficial karaoke circle at the amphitheatre that starts around 3 p.m. and draws locals with no entry fee.

The Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development reported that the city maintains 2,500 public green spaces covering roughly 14 percent of its total area. Visitor counts at Tempelhofer Feld alone exceeded 1.2 million in the first half of 2025 according to park authority logs.

The public reading rooms at the Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin on Breite Straße stay open until 8 p.m. on weekdays with no charge for seating or Wi-Fi.
