Berlin Council Launches Affordable Group Exercise Classes Across Multiple Neighborhoods
Berlin district offices run affordable group sessions at indoor and outdoor sites across multiple neighbourhoods this summer.
How we reported this

Residents in Berlin can register this month for group exercise classes at council-run facilities operated by the city's twelve Bezirksämter.
Summer demand for structured sessions has risen sharply since the expansion of outdoor fitness infrastructure along major cycling routes. District budgets allocated extra funds in early 2026 for additional instructors at sites that already host morning and evening slots. The move aligns with ongoing efforts to promote wellness through public assets rather than private gyms, especially in areas with high residential density like Mitte and Kreuzberg.
Two council sites offering classes
The Sportanlage Tiergarten on Straße des 17. Juni runs mixed-level circuit classes three mornings a week. Sessions use the fixed outdoor equipment installed along the park's western edge and incorporate bodyweight drills on the adjacent grass. Further east, the Bezirksamt Pankow schedules yoga and mobility groups at the Ernst-Thälmann-Park facility on Prenzlauer Allee. Both locations accept drop-ins and require only a resident card for entry.
Participation data from the Senatsverwaltung für Inneres und Sport shows 4,800 people attended council fitness programmes across Berlin in the first half of 2025. Average class size at Tiergarten reached 22 participants per session. Fees remain fixed at €6 for a single 60-minute class or €45 for a ten-session card valid at any district site.
How to sign up and what to expect
Interested residents should visit the website of their local Bezirksamt or call the Sport- und Freizeitamt hotline before the next intake closes on 18 July. Newcomers receive a short induction on the first visit covering safety rules and equipment use. Classes run regardless of weather at covered facilities and move indoors at the Stadtbad Mitte during heavy rain. Participants are advised to arrive ten minutes early with a towel and water bottle.
