Berlin Street Art: The Best Murals, Galleries & Urban Art
Berlin is the world capital of street art — a city where building facades become canvases and internationally recognised artists from Banksy to ROA have left their mark on walls that once divided East from West. The East Side Gallery is the obvious starting point, but Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain contain the densest concentration of quality murals. The RAW-Gelände, a former railway yard in Friedrichshain, is an ever-changing outdoor gallery. Haus Schwarzenberg in Mitte's courtyard is a legally-painted shrine to outsider art. Walking tours by Alternative Berlin provide context and access to spots not on maps. Lichtenberg is increasingly important for its large-scale commissioned works on residential tower blocks.
